Overview: Section 20.4 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) requires the State Bureau of Investigation and the State Highway Patrol, no later than February 1 annually, to report to the Chairs of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees and the Chairs of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Justice and Public Safety on all positions within that department that have remained vacant for 12 months or more, including the original position vacancy dates, the dates of any postings or repostings of the positions, and an explanation for the length of the vacancies.
This section became effective July 1, 2026.
