Overview: Section 43.15 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) requires the Board of Transportation, in consultation with the Ferry Division, of the Department of Transportation to establish tolls for all ferry routes, which must include passenger vessel replacement considerations. Certain school buses will be exempt from ferry tolls. The Department must also provide a commuter pass option for local coastal area residents and active military personnel for a $150 fee, which would authorize valid holders to utilize the ferry at no additional costs. Beginning July 1, 2028, the commuter pass fee will be set by the Board of Transportation, in consultation with the Ferry Division. The Ferry Division may implement necessary tolling technology and infrastructure accordingly.
The Ferry Division must begin collecting tolls for all routes no later than January 1, 2027.
