Overview: Section 19.8 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) provides that the Governor's appointment of the Adjutant General is subject to confirmation by the General Assembly by joint resolution. It provides a procedure by which the Adjutant General's name is to be submitted by the Governor to the General Assembly for confirmation. It further provides a procedure for the Speaker of the House of Representatives and President Pro Tempore of the Senate to submit a name to the General Assembly for confirmation if the Governor does not submit a name by May 1 of the year in which the Adjutant General is to be appointed and creates an additional procedure in the event of a vacancy in the office of the Adjutant General.
This section became effective July 7, 2026.
