Overview: Section 17.13 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) prohibits the Department of Adult Correction (Department) from increasing an employee's salary with savings from eliminating any vacant position if the employee is (i) grade NC26 or higher on the North Carolina standard compensation plan or (ii) grade LG09 or higher on the Legal compensation plan.
This section became effective July 1, 2026, and applies to actions taken by the Department on or after that date.
