S257 - 2026 Appropriations Act. (SL 2026-41)

• Eliminates the requirement that each board of county commissioners furnish the Department of Secretary of State copies of the lists of public and abandoned cemeteries.
• Eliminates the requirement that the Secretary of State keep a receipt book in which the Secretary of State maintained a receipt from every person to whom a grant was delivered.
• Provides that certain institutions and government officials, agencies, departments, and other educational institutions may request an electronic copy in lieu of any printed copies of reports, bulletins, maps, or other publications.
• Repeals the requirement that the Secretary of State hold office hours, keep records of oyster grants, keep certain reports, and have printed biannually copies of the North Carolina Manuel.
• Requires the Office of the Secretary of State to retain at least one printed copy or an electronic copy of certain records which this section eliminates the requirement to maintain that are in possession of the Office of the Secretary of State prior to the date this section became law.

This section became effective July 1, 2026.
