S257 - 2026 Appropriations Act. (SL 2026-41)

• Three members by the Governor.
• Six members appointed by the General Assembly, three upon recommendation of the Speaker     of the House and three upon recommendation of the President Pro Tempore of the Senate.

The terms of the Council members are three years and all members serve at the pleasure of, and may be removed by, the appointing authority. An appointment to fill a vacancy on the Council is for the balance of the unexpired term. The Council selects its chair and other officers of its choosing from among its members for terms designated in the Council's rules.

The section further provides that the terms of current members of the Council expire at the conclusion of the term for which they were appointed.  For the eight members whose terms expired June 30, 2026, the Governor appoints one successor and the General Assembly appoints two successors, one upon recommendation of the Speaker of the House and one upon the recommendation of the President Pro Tempore of the Senate. This section provides for the same division of appointments for members whose terms expire June 30, 2027 and June 30, 2028.
